Final Richie Evans Memorial At Tioga Sunday, May 29th: First of 3 Race Weekends Set To Go On The Lightning Fast Half Mile Oval

by Carol Houssock

(Owego, NY) Fasten your seatbelts, as Tioga Motorsports Park readies for the first of three stock car events (Sunday, May 29th) in this, its final year. "This is it, folks," track Promoter Chris Zacharias has been saying for the past few weeks. "We made special arrangements with the track owner, Frank Lopke, to hold these 3 race events. This is our way to let everyone bid a fitting farewell to the track so many of us love so dearly," he added.

How fitting that the first of those 3 weekends will be highlighted by the Richie Evans Memorial 75-lapper for the Modifieds. So many talented racers have wanted to win that one over the years, given Evans' impact on the sport in general and the track in particular. Several have won the Richie Evans Memorial, but this is the last time it can be done in Owego, NY. "This is the final Richie Evans Memorial as we know it. Everyone wants to have the distinction of winning the final one. It's also the first of 2 Central Division Sunoco Race of Champions Modified Tour shows we'll run this year."

Joining the ROC Modifieds are the SST-Modifieds, competing in a 100-lap SST Tour race. The Street Stocks will run a 50-lap feature, which also counts as an ROC qualifier. For more information on the Race of Champions and its support events go to http://www.raceofchampions.net/.

Pit gates will open at 9 AM on Sunday the 29th. At noon the grandstand gates will open and the air will be filled with the sound of cars on the track for practice. Admission is $20 for adults, $13 for seniors and kids 10 and over, with free admission for kids ages 9 and under.

Those arriving on Saturday evening will enjoy a party in the track parking lot. Anyone wanting more information should consult the track's website at http://www.tiogamotorsportspark.com/. Lightning Fast Asphalt Racing: Gotta Love It!
